Forgotten platforming furry Bubsy is on the cusp of making another comeback, in the Purrfect Collection on PS5. This one is being repurposed using Limited Run Games’ Carbon Engine, and promises to explore the “franchise’s troubled history and enduring popularity”. That includes infamous PS1 stinker Bubsy 3D, which was developed by Days Gone maker Bend Studio.
“Bubsy in: The Purrfect Collection is a playable history that includes games, artifacts and interviews,” the press release reads. “All of the games have been carefully updated for modern PCs and consoles using Limited Run’s proprietary Carbon Engine. Along the way the team was able to smooth out some of the games’ rough edges.”
There’s no specific release date just yet, but the title’s due out at some point in 2025. As this is a Limited Run Games joint, you can also expect a physical edition to deploy alongside the digital version, with more information to follow in the future.

Last time i played bubsy I had a mega drive 2 😎
@Mikey856 You're ageing yourself there.
I was part of a whole generation who bought the original Bubsy because they saw very impressive static pictures in a magazine and read about the voice acting. Then we played it and realised our mistake.
Any subsequent generation has no excuse in a world with YouTube and comment sections.
No. NO. YOU WERE DEAD. You should have STAYED dead! Don’t you dare come back. Do t you dare!
I’m pretty sure Bubsy 3D killed a part of me as a child, over 25 years later and it still fills me with a white hot rage, sadness, coldness. I can’t believe someone would inflict that on a whole new generation.
This definitely wasn’t on my bingo card
Bend Studio over there like...
I remember playing Bubsy loads on the demo mega drive in Littlewoods! Wasn’t there an absolutely awful reboot a couple of years ago or am I dreaming?
Wow! this was my vert first SNES game.
@get2sammyb time waits for no man not even moi 😁
Before I got an N64 I was desperate for a 3d platformer on the PS1 after having tested Mario 64 at a game shop.
I was fooled into thinking Bubsy 3D may be worth it....how wrong I was. It had no redeeming features at all. It's painful to look at, listen to and play and I bet it fu*king stinks too to assault all the senses
Just bought the glorious 3D-platforming masterpiece that is Bubsy 3D in almost mint condition for about 3 euros. This game is the literal definition of dung, especially the PAL release that has zero support for memory cards
And here I thought the Marvel vs Capcom Collection was something to get excited about. Bubsy is the real collection to look out for.
Man, Limited Run will sell any old garbage won't they?
@Andee they snatched Plumbers Don’t Wear Ties, this sums up everything about LRG.
They’ll probably re-release Big Rigs: Over The Road Racing for modern platforms as well while they are at it
@SrpskaArtilerija Yeah, when they announced PDWT, I was like "okay this is getting silly now." They seem to be systematically churning through all the games that AVGN has covered to garner some of that sweet sweet cash from people who grew up watching it and now have disposable income
I'd have been more excited for a Cool Spot collection. At least those were good games, but I doubt we'll see re-releases of this because of licencing.
I'll admit to occasionally playing a bit of Bubsy on the department store demo Megadrive BITD, (Can only imagine whoever did it cackling in delight taking out lethal enforces or Mortal Kombat & replacing it)!😂
Felt uninspired in a glut of similar platformers but a little surprised it got its reputation when I'd seen some worse ones out there! McDonald's Land for example!
That said, the only way they could polish Bubsy 3 is with a belt sander & grind it to oblivion!😱😂
Much like say Earthworm Jim,anything beyond the 2d 16bit era games feels like a waste of disc space...those CD-R's aren't as easy to find as they used to be after all!😋
I'm all for game preservation, but certainly there are more worthy titles that need a re-release than this?
Why why for the long love of God why! It was all bad enough the first time round, learn form your/others mistakes somethings are better left in past!
I’m in the minority I guess, but I loved Bubsy 1 and put a lot of time in to Bubsy 2 as well. Genisis
